X 1908+075: an X-ray Binary with a 4.4 Day Period

چکیده
X 1908+075 is an optically unidentified and highly absorbed X-ray source that appears in early surveys such as Uhuru, OSO-7, Ariel V, HEAO-1, and the EXOSAT Galactic Plane Survey. These surveys measured a source intensity in the range of 2–12 mCrab at 2–10 keV, and the position was localized to ∼ 0.5. We use the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) All Sky Monitor (ASM) to confirm our expectation that a particular Einstein IPC detection (1E 1908.4+0730) provides the correct position for X 1908+075. The analysis of the coded mask shadows from the ASM for the position of 1E 1908.4+0730 yields a persistent intensity ∼ 8 mCrab (1.5–12 keV) over a 3 year interval beginning in 1996 February. Furthermore, we detect a period of 4.400 ± 0.001 days with a false alarm probability < 10−7. The folded light curve is roughly sinusoidal, with an amplitude that is 22% of the mean flux. The X-ray period may be attributed to the scattering and absorption of X-rays through a stellar wind combined with the orbital motion in a binary system. We suggest that X 1908+075 is an X-ray binary with a high mass companion star. Subject headings: binaries: general — stars: individual (X 1908+075) — X-rays: stars

X1908+075: a Pulsar Orbiting in the Stellar Wind of a Massive Companion
We have observed the persistent but optically unidentified X-ray source X1908+075 with the PCA and HEXTE instruments on RXTE. The binary nature of this source was established by Wen, Remillard, & Bradt (2000) who found a 4.4-day orbital period in results from the RXTE ASM. We report the discovery of 605 s pulsations in the X-ray flux. The Doppler delay curve is measured and provides a mass func...
متن کاملForty Years of X-Ray Binaries
In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...
متن کاملDiscovery of an eclipsing X - ray binary with a 32 . 69 hour period in M 101 : an analog of Her X - 1 or LMC X - 4 ?
We report the discovery of an eclipsing X-ray binary in M101, the first such system to be discovered outside the Local Group. Based on a sequence of 25 Chandra observations that sample a wide range of orbital phases, we find a period of 32.688 ± 0.002 hours, which we interpret as an orbital period. The folded light curve exhibits an eclipse lasting about 8 hours, suggesting a compact orbit in a...
متن کاملConfirmation of the 62 Day X-ray Periodicity from M82
Using 400 days of new X-ray monitoring of M82, we confirm the 62 day periodicity previously reported. In the full data set spanning 1124 days, we find a period of 62.0± 0.3 days and a coherence, Q = 22.3, that is consistent with a strictly periodic signal. We estimate that the probability of chance occurrence of our observed signal is 6× 10. The light curve folded at this period is roughly sinu...

The aim of the paper is to investigate effects of long term x-ray exposure on the human lymphocyte, reactive lymphocyte parameters and morphology of lymphocytes in x-ray technicians at Kirkuk hospitals. The study included 54 apparently healthy male x-ray technicians were matched with another 54 apparently healthy control to show any alteration in the lymphocytes, reactive lymphocytes and morpho...
